Sunday Oliseh Signs Contract as New Super Eagles Coach (Photos)

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have unveiled Sunday Oliseh as the new coach of the Super Eagles.

After the Saturday, July 4 sacking of Stephen Keshi, the NFF started negotiations with former Nigerian international Oliseh and last week confirmed that he will be the new coach.

Oliseh who arrived Abuja yesterday, Tuesday, July 14 was this morning, Wednesday, July 25 unveiled by the NFF at a ceremony in Abuja.

Oliseh signed his contract at the ceremony which held at the Media Centre of the National Stadium, Abuja before he was introduced to the press and public by NFF President, Amaju Pinnick.

We are excited to get Sunday Oliseh,” Pinnick said.

The federation has been working as a team. We’ve signed the Pep Guardiola of Africa.

 

Speaking after his unveiling, Oliseh said: “It’s a great honour to be given the opportunity to coach my country. I’m not coming as a messiah but a man who wants to serve.

We will work together with the NFF technical committee. Because if we fail, they fail. I’m aware it’s a big job.”

Sunday Oliseh during his career played for FC Liège, Reggiana, Köln, Ajax, Juventus, Borussia Dortmund, VfL Bochum and Genk in Belgium 1994  and 2006.

The 40-year-old won 63 caps for Nigeria and captained the Super Eagles during the 2000 African Nations Cup.

Oliseh was part of the Nigeria squad that won the 1994 African Nations Cup and the 1996 Gold winning Dream team in Atalanta.

He also played at the FIFA World Cup in 1994 and 1998 where is scored a memorable log range winner against Spain in a group match.

He follows the footstep of his fellow ex-Super Eagles class of 94 players in becoming the coach of the Super Eagles-Austin Eguavoen, Samson Siasia and Stephen  Keshi.

Oliseh has little management experience, having coached only Belgian lower league side Vervietois between 2008 and 2009.

His coaching crew will be made up of  his assistant, Belgian Jean Francois Loscuito, second assistant, Salisu Yusuf  and goalkeeper trainer Alloy Agu
